Experimental list building tools

One important strand of work in the movement is discovering content and content gaps in semi-automated ways. Uses algorithms can help us find content with high potential impact. Here are several of the more recent tools that I have found useful in list building:

 • List-building -- a prototype of several models for identifying related topics with machine learning maintained by WMF research.
 • WikiNav -- a tool maintained by WMF research that allows you to look for the most popular articles for sending traffic between pages. This can help identify highly connected content from a reader’s perspective.
 • Wikipedia Diversity Observatory -- a system of interconnected databases that allow you to search for culturally-relevant content for different languages and geographies. This can help identify relevant content, from a geographic diversity perspective
 • GapFinder -- a tool maintained by WMF research that suggests articles for translation based on a core article.

During the 2023 WikiForHumanRights Campaign we recorded demos for each of these tools, we will share them with you in the next few pages as edited shorter videos, or you can watch the full video here (2 hours).
