The highest profile decentralized editing campaigns in the movement are Art+Feminism and WikiGap. Both focus on different aspects of the Gender Biography Gap (that there are far fewer women’s biographies than men’s biographies).

The campaigns run in similar ways:

  • Each campaign relies on an organizer network (Feminist art communities for Art+Feminism and Swedish embassies for Wikigap)
  • Each campaign has produced an event guide for new organizers
  • Each campaign works through regional networks, including affiliates, to connect local hosts to experienced event organizers

Because Women’s biographies are sometimes hard to write, campaigners have incrementally adjusted guidance for organizers to focus more on updating or translating existing articles, rather than writing new Women’s biographies from scratch.
