content | "
One of the big opportunities for campaigns is to work with partners to get access to the audience that you want to include in the campaign. For most campaigns, either international or local partners are an important part of the design of the campaign. Partners can:

Help organizers reach potential participants in the campaign

Communicate the importance of the campaign and lend credibility to the Wikimedia organizers leading the campaign

Help identify topics for contributing to the campaign, such as helping build the topic list described above

For example, in the WikiForHumanRights campaigns we have several types of contributing partners:

the UN Agencies help us identify international topics and

Sometimes UN offices help our local communities find experts or local events.

Because the UN agencies are supporting the campaign, local Wikimedia communities have an easier time connecting with local human rights and sustainability organizations.

Not all partners are “ready” for contributing to a campaign: often, the staff at a partner organization will not have a lot of time or energy for editing Wikimedia directly, and will rely on Wikimedia Organizers to be the process experts. In some cases, these organizations will hire “Wikipedians in Residence”. A Wikipedian in Residence or similar community coordinator helps provide the necessary connection between the organization and the Wikimedia movement.
" |
