What kinds of high impact topics are missing on Wikipedia?

Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects aren't the only place where impactful knowledge can be found. However other forms of publishing, such as this academic journal about neglected tropical diseases -- which is open access -- may not directly serve the public’s needs.

Remember, academic journals are primarily published for other experts. Summarizing content from an academic publisher on Wikipedia helps us address a public knowledge need.

Beyond including underrepresented voices, Topics for Impact also asks us: what information is critical for humanity? How do we create the most impact with the time and energy we have within the Wikimedia community? By highlighting, for example, the Sustainable Development Goals, the recommendation orients us towards: where does society most need knowledge or information to create a transformation in society?

Similar to the knowledge of marginalized communities, some knowledge within scientific publishing systems and structures of power can have a high impact as well. However, even though this knowledge is important for members of the public, it is often inaccessible and published in not-public friendly formats like the above academic journal article about tropical diseases.
