<p style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The Visible Wiki Women campaign, initiated by Whose Knowledge?, is meant to address a series of intersection gaps on Wikimedia projects: both the gap around the f<a href="https://ojs.aaai.org/index.php/ICWSM/article/view/19271" target="[object Object]">requency of women’s biographies that include photos</a> and the systematic under-representation of black and brown women and women from the Global South.</p>
<p style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Each year, the Campaign prioritizes different themes as a call to action to add media as part of the campaign. For example, in 2023, they are elevating the intersectional challenges related to <a href="https://whoseknowledge.org/visiblewikiwomen-2023/" target="[object Object]">Body Plurality</a>.</p>
<p style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Open Sans', Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Parts of the campaign have been particularly innovative at creating new space for types of contribution to Wikimedia projects, such as “Ilustratonas” -- events designed for <a href="https://whoseknowledge.org/resource/creating-drawings-for-wikipedia/" target="[object Object]">creating illustrations </a>where open license photos don’t exist. You can see a guide developed for new illustrators used<a href="https://whoseknowledge.org/resource/creating-drawings-for-wikipedia/" target="[object Object]"> as part of the campaign</a>. </p>
