content | "
As we saw earlier, frameworks like the Sustainable Development Goals can help with prioritization of content in the Wikimedia projects. If we want to be part of the international community working on Gender Equality, how could we align Wikimedia’s work with Sustainable Development Goal #5, Gender Equality?

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Though there has been progress over the last decades, the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development makes clear that development will only be sustainable if its benefits accrue equally to both women and men; and women’s rights will only become a reality if they are part of broader efforts to protect the planet and ensure that all people can live with respect and dignity. Leaving nobody behind is a central precept of the Sustainable Development Goals. Here, it is also important to consider gender identities beyond the binaries identified in the SDGs, such as rights for non-binary people and sexual minorities.

In addition to the explicit focus on SDG #5, Gender Equality, the issue of Gendered impacts of decisions and policies emerges in each of the other SDGs (see graphic below).
