content"<p>As Butler describes, theories of gender mean that there are different aspects related to people's gender:</p> <table style="width: 100%;"> <tbody> <tr><th background-color="#F2B705;">Gender Identity</th><th><strong>Gender Expression</strong></th><th><strong>Sex Characteristics</strong></th></tr> <tr> <td>Gender identity reflects a deeply felt and experienced sense of one’s own gender. It may or may not align with the sex assigned at birth and is influenced by cultural, social, and economic factors.</td> <td>Gender expression is how a person publicly expresses their gender through appearance, behavior, and pronouns. It's important not to assume someone's gender identity based on expression.</td> <td>Sex characteristics include physical attributes like genitalia, chromosomes, hormones, and secondary characteristics associated with sex.</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p style="padding-left: 30px;"><br />In summary, sex characteristics, gender identity and gender expression are not the same. They are each distinct, but embedded in many aspects of a person’s identity. To respect someone's identity, you have to respect people’s choice of terms, names and pronouns to refer to themselves. Understanding the difference between sex and gender is crucial for promoting inclusivity and respecting individuals' self-identified gender identities.</p> <p></p> <p><img height="100%" width="100%" src="/static/Genderbread-Person-3.3.jpg" alt="A gingerbread man representing different parts of Gender" /></p> <p><i>This graphic describes the different kinds of elements involved an in individuals gender expression and sexual orientations.
